Not one thing or another (2003)

The larva is not like the butterfly. It doesn’t fly, it doesn’t walk on plants, and it has more than one pair of legs. No one has yet figured out whether the butterfly thinks it’s more beautiful than the larva. Or if the larva can’t wait to become a butterfly.

Small, fast, and intelligent, Tininha is a larva. A larva that, among other things, knows how to talk very well. But for some time now, Tininha has been in a big dilemma. She loves to run, but she also wants to fly, to see the world from above. She wonders all the time whether to remain a caterpillar or become a butterfly.

Not one thing or another describes, among other things, the drama of the protagonist created by Scliar. This was such a difficult time in Tininha’s life that she, poor thing, almost didn’t make it halfway.
