The ship of colors (2003)

Moacyr Scliar draws inspiration from certain aspects of artist’s Lasar Segall’s real life to create a narrative that begins with a child’s fascination with the calligraphy of his father, a copier of the Torah, in Vilna, Lithuania. The story unfolds as the child discovers his talent for lines, colors, and creating images. The narrative explores the ultimate impact of the encounter between his Jewish culture and tradition with the people, landscapes, fruits, and animals of Brazil in the early years of the 20th century.
