“The son and grandson of immigrants, I was born in Porto Alegre, in the Bom Fim neighborhood. I grew up there, listening to the stories of my parents and our neighbors, sitting in chairs on the sidewalk on summer nights or around the tea table in winter. Stories that captured my imagination and at an early age, led me to put my own stories on paper, with the help of my mother, herself a great storyteller and a teacher at the neighborhood Jewish school.

Much of my fiction is based on childhood and young adult experiences, as well as historical events. As a writer, I feel like the heir to a heavy burden of suffering, and a rich cultural tradition that includes reverence for the written word. Books have been a part of my life, and I can’t think of any better way to talk about Judaism than through a book, even one as modest as this one…”
