A descendant of Jewish immigrants, young Marcelo decides to abandon his comfortable life and seek refuge on a nearly deserted beach, where he receives letters from his godfather. The letters reconstruct the history of Marcelo’s grandfather, a chemist who fled Nazi Germany on a Portuguese sailing ship and made a fortune in Brazil, and his father, who in the years leading up to 1964, took part in the struggle by young communist militants in Sa o Paulo.
